Chapter 5
Recovery
"Noin, are you alright?" a voice asked, from somewhere in
her mind. "Noin?" No it wasn't her mind playing tricks. She remember that
voice, it was Mai. Fluttering her eyelids open, she slowly adjusted to the
light and glanced around, "Mai?" Standing beside her bed was her friend,
gently dappling a wet towel on her forehead. "You've finally woken up," Mai
grinned, her eyes full of happiness. "You've been asleep for three days
already. We were so worried!" "Three days!" Noin sat up instantly, preparing
to slide her feet off the bed but she felt her body driving herself to do
the opposite. "Silly girl, eat before you move. You haven't eaten for days,
that's why you can't get off the bed." Bringing over a tray of food, Mai
placed it onto the coffee table. "How did I get back?" "Well Zechs said
he found you unconscious and carried you back here. "He did? Oh…" Noin
nibbled on the slice of bread and gently slid it back onto its plate. "I
don't really feel like eating, maybe later. I'm think I'll stick with a bit more
sleeping." "Sure no problem. I'm just going to leave you while you
sleep. If you need anything, just tell me," Mai smiled, tucking her friend
under the thick blanket before striding out to the corridor, gingerly
shutting the door behind her. Closing her eyes, she promptly fell asleep.
~She's most likely to be asleep now.~
It had been half an hour
at least since Mai had left her to her sleep. Another two days before she
had to start classes again. Silently opening the door, Zechs peeked inside.
Fast asleep, the girl's body faced upwards, she was breathing at an even,
steady pace. Her delft blue hair drew a slight veil across her face. Slowly
walking in, Zechs stopped at the side of her bed, he brushed aside her bangs
and studied her face, full of mixed expressions, none of which he could tell
apart. Stroking her soft cheeks, he felt the smoothness and warmth. He let
out a mysterious sigh before leaving her.
Two months later...
Half of the cadets graduated from the Lake Victoria Base Academy, with
the top two students being Zechs and Noin. Both gained the highest results
in history, beating the old scores by far. Zechs soared upwards on the ranks
while Noin moved onto teaching the new recruits of the Specials.
